A massive congratulations to this years Superleague National Champion, Des “The Whizz” Wilcox.

It was a rollercoaster event for Des after missing his flight on the morning of the event. He raced into the venue to find he had almost been timed out and hence trailed Paul Duffy 0-7. Des didn’t let this deter him and got down to work to pull off the impossible, winning 8 straight frames to win the match 8-7.

This incredible win set the tone for an undefeated weekend, ultimately taking the final over Bayden Jackson 8-6. Des had taken an early lead in this match and managed to hold onto it all the way to the hill. At this point the nerves were clear to see and Bayden, smelling blood, mounted a comeback. In a tactical exchange at 7-6 Des saw his oportunity, and after a couple of spurned chances he wasn’t letting this one go. He sealed the victory with a very thin cut on the 8ball becoming the first Kiwi winner of a Superleague National title.

Congratulations to Bayden Jackson and Neil Whalley, winners of the inaugural North Island and South Island open titles respectively. Both players put up fantastic performances to put themselves in prime position for a spot in the NZ team later this year, well done fellas.
